On July 2 and 3, with support of UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) the HSoJ organized the training for judges on International Standards of Human Rights Protection at the House of Justice.
The training was conducted by the Director of National Institute for Human Rights – Tamar Tomashvili.
At the opening of the training the participants were welcomed by the Senior Human Rights Adviser for the South Caucasus at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights – Dr. Vladimir Shkolnikov, Officer of UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights – Besarion Bokhashvili and Head of Administration at the High School of Justice – Giorgi Tshekhani.
Within the framework of the training participants discussed the following issues: Application of Human Rights: Positive and Negative Obligations of State, Obligatory International Mechanisms of Georgia on Prohibition of Discrimination, Prohibition of Torture and Ill-treatment According to the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and European Convention on Human Rights, Freedom of Expression (Freedom of Opinion).
15 judges participated in the training from Tbilisi Court of Appeals, Tbilisi and Rustavi City Courts and Akhaltsikhe, Samtredia, Senaki, Zugdidi, Ozurgeti and Gori Regional Courts.
The training was envisaged by the Training Program 2015 for Sitting Judges and othet Court Staff.
