On July 23 and 24, the HSoJ organized the training for assistants to judges on European Convention on Human Rights and its Application in Batumi Regional Education Center.
The training was conducted by the Human Rights Officer of UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights – Besarion Bokhashvili.
The seminar was conducted via video-conference system. Two groups of the HSoJ participated in the training in Batumi Regional Education Center and House of Justice, Tbilisi.
Within the framework of the training the participants discussed the following issues: Application of European Convention on Human Rights; Prohibition of Torture (general aspects, definition, actions which fall under the definition, positive and negative obligation of the State); Inhuman and Degrading treatment; Decisions against Georgia on Prohibition of Torture, Case Law of European Court of Human Rights; Judicial and Penitentiary Institutions as well as Extradition, Deportation, Proceedings related to the expulsion in the context of article 3.
15 assistants to judges participated in the training in Batumi Education Center from Kutaisi Court of Appeals, Batumi and Kutaisi City Courts, Zestaponi, Samtredia and Khelvachauri regional Courts. As for the House of Justice, 10 assistants to judges participated in the training from Tbilisi Court of Appeals and Tbilisi City Court.
The training was envisaged by the Training Program 2015 for Sitting Judges and other Court Staff.
